When I started talking to people about Mastermind groups most didn’t really understand the concept. Now, the big question is,
“Why should I join a Mastermind group?”
The primary reason is different for everybody. There are several reasons people join Mastermind groups—especially business Mastermind groups. Right now I’m running an online group for new business owners and struggling solopreneurs who are focusing on getting more clients. Anybody in the world can join as long as they can make it at the right time.
When I ask, “Why did you join this group?” it varies. But the TOP REASON someone joins our Mastermind group is ISOLATION. They just want to break that isolation. If you’re a solopreneur, especially a work-from-home solopreneur and you’re just getting into this whole business entrepreneur world, it can be very lonely. Why? Because friends don’t understand, family members don’t understand and they can’t wrap their head around the struggles you’re actually facing. Even your spouse who sees you everyday cant fully comprehend. Especially if they have a 9 to 5 type job with a clear work-life balance, they are not going to understand. The bottom line is that most entrepreneurs—even high level entrepreneurs and CEOs—feel isolation.
When you get into a Mastermind group, you’re around peers that understand what you’re going through because they’re going through the same damn thing. It breaks the isolation. That’s probably the number one reason I have people join my Mastermind group.
The second reason people join a Mastermind group is to take their business to the next level.
Do you want to:
- Make more money
- Build your email list
- GROW?
Business owners want to take their business to the next level and make an impact. That’s why I call the group the Impact Mastermind Group, IMPACT is a word that keeps coming up over and over and over. People want to make more money, but it’s not just about money. It’s about having an impact on their own life, having an impact on their clients’ lives. Whether they’re coaching people or helping people with health issues, selling a service or a product, whatever it may be—they want to impact their own lives. They want to take their business to the next level.
Another reason people join a Mastermind group, and this comes up a lot, is accountability. When you’re working by yourself, you don’t have a boss. You can do whatever you want. The problem is you can do whatever you want and you end up doing a million different things and end up half-assing most of it. Or you could be starting things and never finishing them. You’re jumping from shiny object to shiny object, I’m sure you’ve heard of shiny object syndrome, or just a lack of focus. Most people, especially when they’re starting out, they need some sort of accountability. They need to say, I’m going to do this. In my Mastermind group, we have 30-day challenges. Every month, everybody sets a challenge or a goal. Then, when we meet each week, we ask everyone if they are on or off track.
See, that piece of accountability, when you publicly state something and you know that people are going to ask you about it every week you’re 10 times more likely to actually follow through. Now, imagine what this can do for your business over the next 12 months. If you set 12 goals, 12 30-day challenges, actually follow through each month, how would it impact your business? Most business owners aren’t doing this consecutively on their own and this is why Mastermind groups are super powerful when it comes to accountability.
Another huge reason, and something I love the most about Mastermind groups is to GET UNSTUCK! Each month we have hot seat sessions where somebody presents an issue they’re having. Most of the time it’s regarding a marketing issue:
- “I need more clients.”
- “I need to learn how to build my email list.”
- “I need to build a YouTube following.”
- “I want to build an Instagram following.”
Whatever it may be, most of the people in the group have been in the same position. The Mastermind group comes together and helps you get unstuck, it gets you out of your head, and into the Mastermind!
If you sit around with a pad of paper and you start trying to solve problems by yourself, you will get stuck. You can read a book, jump into a Facebook group and ask some questions, you can even watch YouTube videos, but you’ll still be in your own head. Now, if you have a group of 8 to 12 people helping with your issue, you will get answers FAST. In a Mastermind group you’ll have 10 people helping you brianstorm your problem for 30 minutes. This is a powerful tool to spark new ideas. That’s kind of the Mastermind concept Napoleon Hill, the original founder of Mastermind, developed over 100 yearrs ago. Hill believed two or more minds are much better than one and creates what’s actually called a third-mind, another mind out there that wouldn’t exist if you were by yourself.
So, why should you join a Mastermind group?
- Accountability
- Taking your business to the next level
- Develop deep friendships
- Break isolation
- GET UNSTUCKting
A Mastermind group is like having a board of directors, having a sounding board, having people that support you and want to help you out. That’s what a real Mastermind group is all about.
